I am updating an old blog from a few years ago. I’m doing this for a couple of reasons. First, this post contained a video which is the most watched of all my YouTube videos and I have had the most comments on it. This tells me that it’s an important topic for many people. Secondly, I wanted to give some updates and expand on my blog post because I was a new blogger at that time and I really didn’t write much in my post. I let the video stand on its own. I hope this updated blog helps people who are suffering from a Baker’s cyst get a better understanding of how to heal naturally.
It was back in 2017 when I first noticed that I could not bend down to help a student in my classroom without severe pain in my left leg behind the knee. It was also getting very painful to walk my dogs each day. I decided to seek medical care and they diagnosed me with a Baker’s cyst. They gave me a shot of cortisone and that was about all the treatment they offered. I think I may have done some stretching, but I can’t recall at this point. I must not have gotten much relief because I decided to try some essential oils instead. I am not sure why I didn’t seek this alternative treatment before going to the doctor, but at least I did finally try it. I got very quick relief from the cyst. It was like a miracle, really. And the cyst stayed away for quite awhile. A couple times since my original cyst, it has tried to come back. I quickly reach for my “cyst oil” and apply it several times a day. Within a day or two the pain is gone. So, I always keep this oil concoction handy.
After doing some searching online, I found a recipe that included 3 essential oils as well as a carrier oil. The oils I used were: copaiba, frankincense, and cypress — all from Young Living. Let’s look at each of these essential oils.
Copaiba: This oil comes from trees in Central and South America. It is actually harvested from the oil-resin extracted from the tree. There are many benefits to using copaiba. It has been used as an anti-inflammatory and it is used for pain relief. CLICK HERE for an article that tells about the promising effects of using copaiba for inflammation. Further research is needed, but it looks like a promising way to reduce inflammation in the body, especially for people diagnosed with MS
Frankincense: This oil comes from the resin of the Boswellia tree which grows in dry mountainous regions of India, Africa, and the Middle East. If you have not smelled frankincense you are missing out. This is, by far, my favorite oil scent. It’s simply heavenly. One side benefit of using oils for your cyst is the aromatherapy that you also get when applying them. Frankincense has so many benefits like helping with arthritis pain. CLICK HERE for an article which outlines many of those benefits which have been used in traditional medicine for centuries.
Cypress : This is another wonderful smelling oil. It is made from the leaves, twigs, and stems of the cypress tree. Cypress oil is an antispasmodic. This means it can help with pulled and cramped muscles. It can be great to use for restless leg syndrome and carpal tunnel too. It can also help with edema, or swelling, of muscles. For the carrier oil, I simply used V6 — a Young Living carrier oil. However, there are a variety of carrier oils you can use such as coconut, jojoba, almond, or olive. You don’t need very much.
To make the “cyst oil concoction” I mixed: 5 drops each of frankincense, copaiba, and cypress oils. I put these drops into an empty bottle which had a roller top. Then I put the carrier oil to about 1/2 way. I applied the oils several times a day until the pain stopped, which didn’t take long. Now I keep it on hand for flare ups which I just recently had. In one day the pain was gone. This is a true miracle for people suffering from Baker’s cysts.
Feel free to share your Baker’s cyst experiences below and let me know if you found relief with this oil mixture.
