There are so many people who never breathe deeply. They live their lives taking shallow, short breaths and their health can suffer as a result. This is a very simple technique that not only gets you breathing deeply, but it also crosses energy over your body so it can be doubly wonderful for your body.
When you breathe in, do so through the nose with the tip of your tongue on the roof of your mouth. When you breathe out, breathe through your mouth with the tongue on the bottom of your mouth. These are slow, deep breaths. You should practice until you feel comfortable.
Once you have the breathing down, I want you to visual balance. That can be the word “balance” or it can be a teeter totter, or you balancing on something. Whatever works for you is fine. Just focus on balance.
Your feet and hands come next. Start with your feet. Cross one foot over the other, noting which foot is crossed over on top. Keep your feet flat on the floor, if possible. Then outstretch your arms in front of you. Cross the opposite hand over from what you did with your legs — if you crossed your left leg over your right leg, then cross your right hand over your left hand. With your arms still stretched in front of you and crossed, bring palms together and clasp your hands.. Then bring them in to rest on your chest. You are now ready to begin.
Do this exercise at least for 90 seconds. You can count your breaths or set a timer. Don’t forget to visualize. Once you are done, you may feel a little light headed and your heart may be racing. Sit for 30-60 seconds until you feel ready to get up.
I do this in the morning to begin my day, but you can do it any time you need to balance your energy, your emotions, or you need to de-stress.
Please leave a comment to let me know if you tried this, if it helped, or any other comments you would like to tell me about this simple exercise. I got this from the book Instant Emotional Healing by George Pratt and Peter Lambrou.
