2019 is upon us. It is my wish that you are healthy, happy, and fulfilled in the coming year (and many years to come). Let’s make 2019 the best year ever! I have compiled a list of five very simple things you can do to help make your 2019 healthy!
Drink more water. This is so simple, but let’s face it, people just don’t drink enough water. And I mean water. Period. Coffee, tea, and soda (which contain water) do not count. When we drink enough water, our entire body stays hydrated, helping our cells replenish. Next time you are thirsty, grab a glass of water and feel the lusciousness of this wet, wonderful liquid. Note: When possible avoid water in plastic bottles. Invest in a glass or stainless steel container. If possible, make sure your water does not contain fluoride. This is an unnecessary additive that has never been proven to reduce cavities. Plus it’s a very unhealthy thing to put into your body. Click HERE for more information on the dangers of fluoride.
Breathe. I know, we breathe everyday without thinking about it. However, most people tend to breathe very shallowly, which doesn’t allow the oxygen to fully nourish the body. Even 5-10 minutes of deep breathing each day is a powerful way to improve your wellness. Simply being mindful of your breath is a great way to begin a meditation practice because it keeps our mind occupied. Here is a breathing exercise from Andrew Weil, M.D. This is one of the simplest breathing techniques you can do. Basically, you are not controlling your breath – you are just paying attention to your breathing. Sit quietly with no distractions and notice how you inhale and exhale and where your breath changes from inhale to exhale. Bring attention back to your breath if your mind wanders. Try this for 5 minutes and then make it longer if you can. Then try doing it by starting with an exhalation. When you exhale, squeeze out more air than you think you can. This reverses the breath cycle and can be a very different experience. Then take a big inhale breath. Do this a few times. When you are done, don’t be surprised if your body tingles – it is saying “thank you.”
Seek out a Reiki treatment. I tell people that if I ran the world, Reiki would be part of everyone’s health care. It should be covered 100% by insurance so that people can get Reiki at least once a month. Reiki removes blockages in the energy body that may eventually lead to an illness or disease. It helps your body’s parasympathetic nervous system which is our rest and digest mode. Reiki gives your body the tools it needs to heal itself. It is extremely relaxing and is a wonderful thing to do for your body. Simply Google “Reiki practitioners” and the name of your city, find a worthy practitioner, and schedule your appointment today. You won’t be disappointed.
Use essential oils. Essential oils are wonderful tools to help you in a variety of ways. Oils can be used to support your wellness so many ways, plus they just smell so good. If you haven’t tried an essential oil yet, I would start with Lavender. Putting it in a diffuser at night will help with sleep. If you don’t have a diffuser, put some on a tissue and tuck it inside your pillowcase. Make sure you buy oils from a reputable place (I love Young Living Oils, personally). In other words, the grocery store might not be the best place to find essential oils. Do your research and reap the benefits of essential oils. You won’t regret it. They are wellness in a bottle.
Question where your food comes from. Let’s make 2019 the year when you actually look at your plate and think about where each item came from. Ask yourself: It this healthy? Will this nourish my body? Is it GMO? Is it organic? Do I really know where this came from? When we ask ourselves these questions, we ultimately begin eating better. It is when we eat mindlessly that we feed our body, but we don’t necessarily nourish our body. Make this a year when your body is filled with nourishing, healthy food. This means you should eat rainbows – when you look at the food are eating, notice the colors (or lack thereof). Your plate should be bright and colorful as often as possible. This means eating many vegetables in a variety of colors. If you are not a veggie person, you just haven’t found the right one. Experiment. Keep looking and tasting. Chances are you will find something green or red or orange or yellow that feeds your body and your soul.
I think you will agree, these are 5 simple things you can do to help make 2019 a year of vibrant health. They are all easy and don’t take much time. I wish you all the best in the coming year!
